Victory for Tennessee Clean Water in Coal Ash Lawsuit
August 4, 2017
Today, a federal court in Nashville ruled against the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) in a lawsuit over groundwater contamination from coal ash pits at TVA’s Gallatin Fossil Plant. U.S. District Judge Waverly Crenshaw ordered TVA to excavate and relocate coal ash from a leaking, unlined pit to a dry, lined location. TSRA and the Tennessee Clean Water Network filed the complaint against the TVA in April 2015, alleging that the Gallatin coal ash pits leaked into groundwater and the Cumberland River, violating the Clean Water Act.
